Make Versus Buy: Mayonnaise

This is the next post in my ‘Make versus Buy’ series where I share the cost difference of making versus buying your favourite store bought items, plus a recipe for you to DIY.

Today I’m looking at mayonnaise - one of my favourite condiments to have in the fridge.

The one I’ve chosen to price compare is the Undivided Food Co brand which is free from vegetable oils and additives. It will cost you $13.50 for a 280 jar. Most of the cheaper mayos you see contain vegetable oils and some kind of additives and/or preservatives.

Making your own will cost you $7.30 for the same size jar. The majority of this cost comes from the oil. I worked out the cost buying everything at full price (I used the Moro brand light tasting olive oil), so if you can get the oil on sale you can save yourself up to $3 per batch.

I hope you found this post useful!
